Careers 2022: Get Comfortable With Change!

Career Disruptions: Get Comfortable With Change!

2022 demands we all get comfortable with change … We couldn’t have known that the onset of the pandemic in June 2020 would prompt so many career disruptions! Newsflash: 24 months later, working from home has become a way of life. The pandemic has resulted in huge changes to job seeker expectations and employers’ expectations. It has also prompted a true overhaul of everyone’s perspective on meaningful work! More information on post-pandemic job search best practices can be found here.

Increased Connectedness

The good news: One of the most beneficial side effects of the pandemic is that there is now a profound, significant increase in proactive interaction within online groups and more openness to networking within professional communities. We are witnessing more connectedness, more inclusion, a greater appreciation for diversity and more authenticity than ever! The pandemic has certainly brought out the best in us, in terms of watching out for, and facilitating for, each other. Getting comfortable with change means that everyone can now be assured of a whole opportunity to expand their networks! In other words, connect already!

Mindset Alert

What would you like your professional name to stand for?

Need for Up-Skilling & Certification

Employers are seeking talent with greater flexibility, greater skills and greater knowledge — especially with respect to new technologies and new platforms. Demand for talent is high. More importantly, along with a multitude of new jobs and new functionalities, comes a multitude of employer demands!

Employers are on the watch for “digital currency” and “a consistent digital presence” from potential employees. They are also seeking talent that have existing  — and expanding — social equity (read: connections!). Employers are inviting/incenting their staff members to help add to in-house human resource pipelines. As an example, a great way to make a favourable impact on your employer is by helping them find qualitative leads. Job seekers must make a concerted effort, now, more than ever, to connect, connect, CONNECT! Above all, this will help you maintain your currency and digital presence, and will increase your social equity, therefore making your candidacy more attractive to employers.

Career Goals and Wish-List

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WROTE UP A CAREER WISH LIST?

IN FACT, HAVE YOU EVER???

Pro-actively planning and managing your career goals, puts you in the position where you are no longer at the mercy of your industry or the job market.  Think about that for a minute… As a result, planning and managing goals will put YOU in charge of your career, not the other way around!

Career Goals

Write up your new career goals/career wish-list every year on your birthday … you owe it to yourself!

IDENTIFYING & MANAGING YOUR CAREER GOALS

How cool would it be if you actually started managing your career with confidence? Wouldn’t it be great to reduce the uncertainty of the gig economy? Even better, what if you spent less days and weeks throwing everything at the wall hoping something sticks, but came in with a clear, targeted message instead?  And had a real plan…that has teeth? It’s all do-able!

As a career coach, I help you identify the career goals that support your professional and personal values and aspirations. The following career planning exercise will help you figure out the career path you want to pursue:

Challenge yourself to make a wish-list of 12 goals you’d like to realize. Each statement should reflect your dream job or wish-list — things you’d really like to do at this particular stage of your professional life. Then, add in some personal goals. Professional development goals. Work/balance goals. Health goals. If money were no object, what would you really like to do?

  • I would like to own a small production house, creating X content for X audience.
  • I would like to be a consultant in communication for municipal governments.
  • I want to produce a YouTube or Podcast series showcasing…(insert passion project!)
  • I would like to coach young professionals and help them build successful careers.
  • I want to build my knowledge of/take a course in X…

NEXT STEPS

When you’re done, send your list along by email and book a complimentary phone / Zoom call with me. I’ll show you how to prioritize each of your goals into short- mid- and long-term themes, and help you identify any professional development you need to get there. Then, we’ll help you build an easy, effective timeline to help you reach those goals!

As a result of identifying your career goals, I can easily guide you to  realize them!
